Built for Kids Ages 4–7
Little Dippers classes are designed to keep young kids engaged, active, and learning. We use games, movement drills, and partner activities to teach the skills that matter most at this age.
Kids learn when it's time to have fun — and when it's time to lock in and work hard. That balance is the foundation of our approach.

Our Mission
More Than Jiu Jitsu
At Northstar Jiu Jitsu, our mission is simple: we use the process of learning Jiu Jitsu as a catalyst for developing lifelong skills. While students are learning takedowns, escapes, and basic positions, they are also developing:
We value curiosity. We encourage questions. We reward kindness and commitment. Jiu Jitsu is not just about physical skill — it is about learning how to think under pressure, solve problems, and improve through consistent effort.
Classroom Standards
Our Three Core Rules
Every student is expected to follow three non-negotiable rules. These rules create a structured, safe, and productive learning environment where every child can grow.
Listen and Focus
- Stay engaged and face forward
- Do not distract partners during instruction
- Raise your hand to ask questions
Be Respectful
- Be kind and friendly to your training partners
- Treat your coach and teammates with respect
- Never attempt to hurt your partner
Give Your Best Effort
- Train with intensity and purpose
- Attempt the techniques learned that day during live practice
- If you are struggling — ask questions
Staying Informed
Monthly Progress Reports
Progress at Northstar Jiu Jitsu is intentional and documented. Each family receives a structured monthly update so parents can stay connected to what their child is learning and how they're growing.
A question worth asking your child after class:
"What was the most important thing you learned today?"
It is completely normal for children to struggle recalling specific techniques early on. True skill requires repetition. The real measure of progress is consistent effort, emotional control, and willingness to try.
Each Monthly Report Includes
Core Concepts Covered
A list of the principles emphasized that month — so parents understand the "why" behind training.
Video References
Curated technique videos for optional at-home review — allowing families to stay involved.
Personalized Growth Highlight
A short individualized summary with specific progress observed and clear next steps for development.
